Sunshine Coast of BC

The Sunshine Coast is British Columbia's best kept secret, mostly because there is no road access. The Sunshine Coast stretches nearly 180km from Langdale to Lund, and includes many tiny coastal communities. While the Sunshine Coast is populous and frequently visited by tourists all year round, it can only be reached by ferry, which is a scenic 40-minute BC Ferries ride from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons, or by float plane. The steep, rugged terrain has prevented any roads from being built. No access roads have been built around or across the fjords to connect with the rest of British Columbia. The Sunshine Coast is a pacific paradise of quirky waterfront shops, friendly people, and an easygoing lifestyle. Visitors often find it hard to shake the feeling that they're in a secret place that the rest of the world has yet to discover.

Explore the harbourside landing in Gibsons with its eclectic mix of local wares, then drive 15 minutes north to laid-back Roberts Creek. Here you can revisit the 60s in funky shops and galleries. Hop in the car for another 15 minutes to reach Sechelt, the region's largest community and a central gateway to all things outdoorsy and artsy. From Sechelt, it's a short drive along Sechelt Inlet Road to The Herons Return vacation rental cottage

On the way you pass the fishing and beach combing village of Gibsons Landing, the 'gumboot' community of Roberts Creek and the self-governing Sechelt Indian Band to Sechelt with it's cafes, coffee houses and pubs.
